Q:實驗計畫已通過動照會審查,如何申請代養實驗動物?什麼時候可以申請動物入室?
My experiment project has been approved by IACUC of the Shuang Ho campus. How do I apply for animal housing in the Shuang Ho Laboratory Animal Center? When can I apply for it?

  • 申請代養實驗動物,請於實驗動物控管系統(雙和校區),參考文件「代養申請操作說明」(位置:實驗動物控管系統(雙和校區)/系統操作說明/代養申請操作說明) 流程提出入室申請。
    To apply animal housing, follow the tutorials on the ACIS system (Shuang Ho campus) (find the tutorial at ACIS (Shuang Ho campus) homepage > System operating instructions > pending application) to submit.
  • 提出入室申請,請注意計畫起迄時間,於「IACUC計畫執行起始日~結束日」之間的期間提出入室申請。
    An animal housing application must be submitted in the period between the project start date and the deadline of the IACUC project.

Q:已經提出入室申請了,什麼時候可以訂購動物?
I have already submitted an application, when can I order the animal?

  • 提出入室申請後,請等到動物中心核可,系統顯示該筆申請單為「待入室」狀態,才可以向實驗動物供應廠商訂購動物及約定送貨日期。
    After applying, please wait until the animal center approves it, the system will show that the application state is in the “待入室” (waiting for animal arrives). Then, you can order animals and determine a delivery date from the supplier.

Q:已依規定向供應商訂購實驗動物,也知道廠商的送貨日期了,如何通知動物中心?
My application is accepcted so I purchased animals from the supplier and received the delivery date. How do I notify the animal center?

  • 入室系統顯示該筆申請單為「待入室」狀態,且與動物供應廠商確認好實際入室日期,請盡速於入室系統點選「回報入室日期」,即可將「預訂進駐日期」更新為「您與廠商約定的確切到貨(入室)日期」。
    Please login to the ACIS system, click the button that shows “回報入室日期 Report Entry Date” (the light blue one). Fill in the “Expected move-in date (start)” column with the delivery date. (For detailed steps, see the tutorial file in the ACIS system.)

Q:訂購動物時發現內容與當初的入室申請不符合…
I found my order did not match the original housing application…

  • 如訂購動物時,有下列任一項目與入室申請不符,盡速與動物中心入室承辦人聯絡:
    When ordering animals, if any of the following categories do not match the housing application, please contact the animal center as soon as possible:

    □ 品系 (strains)
    □ 數量 (quantity)
    □ 公母 (sex)
    □ 週齡 (age, weeks)
    □ 廠商,如:國家實驗動物中心更換成樂斯科
    (supplier, eg. change supplier from NLAC to BioLASCO)
    □ 送達日期 (delivery date)

Q:可以將動物帶離一般區/SPF區再帶回嗎?
I have taken my rodents away from the animal center, can I bring them back into the conventional/SPF area later?

  • 已經攜離的動物禁止再次進入一般區/SPF,代養期間請於操作室內進行試驗操作。
    Animals that have been taken away from the animal center are prohibited from re-entering the conventional/SPF area. During the foster care period, please conduct experiments/operations in the procedure room.

Q:已申請通過,欲進行動物繁殖,需要注意那些事情?
My application has been approved and I want to conduct animal breeding. Are there any extra rules I need to keep in mind?

  • 繁殖動物必須使用繁殖籠卡填寫並隨時更新繁殖/離乳資訊,以符合籠位實際狀態。
    A specific breeding cage ID tag must be attached to the cage that conducts animal breeding or is lived in by a pregnant animal. This ID tag should be updated instantly whenever the cage status is changed (eg, move-in or out of breeding stock/parturition/weaning…), to match the actual status.
  • 使用完畢的繁殖籠卡請交至動物中心辦公室保存,勿丟棄。
    Once the cage is no longer used for breeding (eg, female mice are moved out or all the pups are weaned…), please update the ID tag for the last time, and submit it to the animal center office as breeding records. Do not discard the breeding ID tag.
  • 新生動物在離乳後,必須申請動物入室案使得繼續飼養。
    Apply for a new housing application for your newborn animals if they need to continue to be raised in the animal center.

Q:因實驗或日常照護產生的實驗動物屍體如何廢棄?
What’s the process to dispose of animal carcasses?

  • 將籠卡上的”隻數”欄位扣除死亡隻數,修正為該籠位的實際隻數。註記移出日期。
    Update the “animal numbers” (數量) column on the cage ID tag to the actual living numbers in the cages. Write down the date that animals are removed/dead.
  • 依實際的移出數量填寫飼育間牆壁上的「動物進出紀錄表」。
    Fill in the form “Animal Entry/Exit Record ” (動物進出動物房紀錄表) in each animal room.
  • 使用塑膠袋包裝死亡動物,秤重,小鼠放至操作室1 (17-22),大鼠為操作室4 (17-31) ,SPF為儀器室(17-14)的4°C冰箱,填寫冰箱門的「動物屍體存放紀錄表」。
    Warp the carcasses with plastic bag/zipper bag, weight, and then place the dead animals into the refrigerator. The procedure room 1 (room 17-22) is for mice carcasses; the procedure room 4 (17-31) is for rats. For SPF area, use the refrigerator in the instrument room (17-14). Next, fill in the form “Dead Animal Storage Record” (動物屍體存放紀錄表), which is on the refrigerator door.

Q收到通知說試驗動物死亡…
I received a notification mail saying my experimental animals died…

  • 使用者於接獲通知後,請於48小時內指派試驗人員,至動物飼養房取回或冰存動物屍體。
    Once users receive such notification, follow-up actions should be taken within 48 hours, such as taking away the carcasses or storing them in a refrigerator.

Q:實驗操作完產生了一些髒污品…
What’s the process to dispose of different kinds of waste?

  • 鼠籠、水瓶等取用自動物中心的器具:集中擺放至走道的推車/平台,因推車數量有限請集中放置,以利後續使用者取用。
    Used items provided by LAC (cages, water bottles, etc…): Load onto a trolley in the corridor. Due to the limited number of trolleys, place the items together in one trolley if possible.
  • 推車:集中擺放至走道,清除檯面的髒污,維護推車整潔以利後續使用者。
    Trolley: Place it in the corridor, remove dirt from the countertop to keep the trolley clean for other users.
  • 一般垃圾:丟至一般垃圾桶(藍色)
    General waste (mask, tissue, paper, outer packaging, etc…): Dispose them into the general waste can (the blue one).
  • 手套、沾有血液的紙巾等感染性垃圾:丟至操作室內貼有”感染性垃圾”的垃圾桶(橘色)
    Gloves/ Infectious/ blood or body fluids-stained waste: Dispose them into the infectious waste can (the orange one with red trash bag).
  • 針具、尖銳物品、手術刀片:務必丟至標有「生物醫療廢棄物」的尖銳物品收集桶內。
    Syringe (needles), sharp objects, scalpel blade: Be sure to dispose of them in sharps bins marked “Biomedical Waste”.

Q:想歸還借用的器具(如:鼠籠、水瓶…)
I want to return the borrowed equipment (eg. rodent cages, water bottles, etc.)

  • 如有借用動物中心提供之器具,敬請歸還至17F後方清洗區門外的推車上
    To return the equipment borrowed from LAC, place it onto the trolley outside the washing zone at the backside of the 17F.
  • 嚴禁攜帶未滅菌的借用器具進入飼養區域
    It is strictly forbidden to bring unsterilized borrowed equipment into the animal center.

Q:想進行動物實驗操作…
I want to conduct animal operations in the animal center. What should I do first?

  • 請先至臺北醫學大學儀器借用系統 (https://rd2sys.tmu.edu.tw:8011/icweb/) 預約操作室,於預約時段登入系統簽到,保障個人使用權利。
    Before conducting animal operations, book a procedure room on the ICWeb website (Core Facility Center Reservation System) and check-in on the booked day.
  • 同一時段有複數使用者,以有預約者可優先使用。
    If there are multiple users at the same time, those with reservations will be given priority.
  • 實驗操作結束,復原操作室環境、檯面、地板及器物的整潔,於儀器借用系統進行簽退。
    After the operation was completed, clean the procedure room, countertops, floors, and apparatus. Load used items (cages, water bottles, etc…) onto a trolley located in the corridor, and check out on the ICWeb website.

Q:想使用氣麻機
I want to use the anesthesia vaporizer provided by LAC

  • 於臺北醫學大學儀器借用系統進行儀器預約,保障個人使用權利。
    Book the instrument on the ICWeb website (Core Facility Center Reservation System) before using.
  • 預約後,於預約的時段在系統簽到、簽退,並填寫儀器現場之「設備使用紀錄表」。
    After successful booking, remember to check in/out on the booked day and fill in the “Equipment usage record”.
  • 動物中心提供的機型使用Isoflurane,使用者需自備 Isoflurane。
    For the anesthesia vaporizer provided by LAC, the only anesthetic that can be used is Isoflurane. Users need to bring Isoflurane on their own.

Q:想使用CO2進行實驗動物安樂死
I need to euthanize mice/rats with CO2

  • 小鼠於操作室1 (17-22),大鼠於操作室4 (17-31) ,SPF於儀器室(17-14)進行,小鼠與大鼠不可混用。
    Euthanizing animals with CO2 could be conducted only in a specified area. For the conventional area, mice should be done in procedure room 1 (room 17-22); rats should be in procedure room 4 (17-31). As for the SPF area, this should be conducted in the instrument room (17-14). No mixing.
  • 參照操作室張貼的說明使用CO2安樂箱,填寫「二氧化碳使用紀錄表」。
    When operating the euthanasia box, follow the tutorial document pasted on the procedure room wall. Fill in the “Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Cylinder Usage Record”
  • 使用完畢請清潔安樂箱,確實關閉CO2氣閥
    Clean the euthanasia box using 75% ethanol. Close the CO2 valve and pressure control valves.
  • 死亡動物以塑膠袋包裝,註記計畫主持人、日期及IACUC編號等資訊,放至4°C冰箱。
    Warp the carcasses in plastic/zipper bags written with PI and IACUC numbers, and place them into the 4°C refrigerators.
  • 填寫「實驗動物屍體存放紀錄表」。
    Fill in the form “Dead Animal Storage Record”, which is on the refrigerator door.
